Woody Finds a Rainbow in His RV!

“Mom! Dad! Hurry!” shouted Woody from inside his family’s RV.

Woody’s mom and dad ran so fast to see what was wrong, that they tumbled into the RV in a tangle of hooves and antlers. “What’s wrong?” asked Woody’s mother.

“Are you hurt?” asked Woody’s father.

“No, Mom and Dad,” exclaimed Woody. “Look, there’s a rainbow in our RV, and it isn’t even raining.”

“Oh, Woody,” said his dad. “That rainbow is made by the crystal suncatcher your mother hung in the window.”

“Look, Woody” said his mother. “This piece of crystal is cut to act like a prisim. The sharp angles cut into the crystal, cause the white sunlight to separate into the colors of the spectrum — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.”

“When you see a rainbow outside,” said his father, “it’s because the tiny droplets of water hanging in the air after a rainstorm act like tiny prisims to separate sunlight into a rainbow.” Woody’s parents agreed to take Woody to the library they to learn more about rainbows when they returned from their camping trip.

Here are some of the neat things Woody learned about light, color and rainbows from books at the library.
